CHARLES MICHAEL KROWITZ
JULY 12, 1969 - MAY 17, 2000

The Charles Krowitz Woodchuck Golf Classic was created in memory of Charles Krowitz whose untimely death led his family & friends to this initiative. Charles was an extraordinary person who touched everyone he met with his warmth, generosity of spirit and zest for life.

He loved woodworking and took great pleasure in lovingly producing beautiful handcrafted items for family and friends, thus the name of the tournament 'Woodchuck'. His love for golf (and every other sport for that matter) makes a golf tournament in his memory a natural fit.

Charles was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, a rare form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, in November of 1999 and despite aggressive chemotherapy treatment passed away in May 2000. Charles was 30 years old at the time of his death and left his wife Nicole and 8 month old son Adam. His life was just beginning and was ruthlessly cut off by this insidious disease. Research tells us that Burkitt's Lymphoma most often affects young men in their 20's and 30's.

When Charles passed away, his family asked that friends and family contribute to a fund established in his memory for cancer research - over $10,000 was raised at that time. Subsequently the Charles Krowitz Burkitt's Lymphoma Research Fund was established at Princess Margaret Hospital. The moneys raised will be used to fund a research fellow whose primary focus will be Burkitt's Lymphoma. Our fervent wish is that a cure for Burkitt's Lymphoma be found, that the funds raised by the Charles Krowitz Burkitt's Lymphoma Research Fund contribute to that goal so that other young vibrant men and their families are not faced with this devastating loss.
